The Forester newspaper has launched two new new titles, The Cinderford Forester and The Newent Forester covering two towns in the Forest of Dean, just two weeks after being taken over by the Tindle Group.
It is the is the latest move by Sir Ray Tindle (pictured) in his efforts to create local community newspapers across the country. His plan, driven by the Tindle Board of Brian Doel, group managing director, Wendy Craig and Sue Yates is also being implemented in other parts of the group where local community newspapers have been relatively more successful during the recession.
He said: “We totally believe in the future of printed local newspapers – we believe in it 100 per cent. Readers want to see their very local news and reports of their activities in print and they want it in their local paper where all their neighbours will see it too.”
The group acquired the 136-year-old The Forester, which at 60p goes to around 12,000 households in the Forest, in mid-October but it took only took two weeks for managing editor Viv Hargreaves to produce the two new titles.
At least two more are planned for other towns in the forest.
